Fine Wine from Our Bottle Shop and Taproom:
Juan Carlos Sancha is a professor of enology at the University of La Rioja. His Bodega is located in the town of Baños de Río Tobía (Rioja Alta), situated on 5ha of land along the border of D.O.Ca. Rioja, and in the coldest zone of this wine denomination.
This cooler location, in the Najerilla Valley, contribute to the high quality of their wines. Juan Carlos Sancha specialise in minority varieties such as Tempranillo Blanco, Maturana Tinta, Maturana Blanca that he and his university colleague Fernando Martinez de Toda discovered, rescued from extinction, and developed.

The Bodega was the first Rioja winery employing these minority varieties in commercialized, though artisan and organic wines. Maturana Tinta comes from an old
Navarrateña variety. Tempranillo Blanco is a mutation from the traditional better known red Tempranillo grapes.
The wines of Bodegas Juan Carlos Sancha are the result of the south facing vineyards’ cool, high location of 565m, their very dense planting (5,000 vines per hectare) and the poor calcareous soils. These factors make the vines “suffer,” producing fewer grapes with higher juice concentration - qualities which contribute importantly to the Bodega’s complex, high-quality wines.
Fresh and yummy, Paranormal Blanco smells of green apples and pears, with a terpenic note of flowers, tropical fruit and citrus. This Tempranillo Blanco is really seductive.

This wine of Bodegas Barón has volume, freshness and a well-defined personality. Citrus, white fruit and flowers, with a crisp acidity and a very long finish.
