After several years working for winemakers all over the Languedoc and Roussillon,
Bastien and Céline settled in the Roussillon, in Saint Paul de Fenouillet, wedged between the Mediterranean and the snow-capped Pyrenees. Their affinity with this region was driven not just by an obsession for native varieties (Carignan, Carignan Blanc, Macabeu, Red and Grey Grenache, Mourvèdre) and old bush vines, but also for the unique terroirs held by this most wild of French regions. The hottest part of France, its rich, potent wines seem to maintain a minerality, leanness and fresh quality. La Bancale’s 6ha of vines straddle plots of black marl, granite and schist, and each wine reflects this in its unique mineral nature.

The vines bake in the dry hot Roussillon sun yet their proximity to the Mediterranean means they benefit from its sea breezes. Being in the foothills of the Pyrenees also brings cool evening temperatures and a balance to these otherwise rich wines. The entire estate is in organic conversion (2016 was their first vintage from these plots) and they practice biodynamic preparations to treat their vines.
Syrah/Mourvèdre grapes provide a Pale and Very dry rose that screams refreshment and sunshine.
